BASIC DOG OBEDIENCE

Train your dog to walk on a leash, sit down, come and stay on command. This 10-week course will build skills each week, including socializing with people and other dogs. Dogs must be at least 6 months old. Participants must bring a pinch collar. Classes will be held in the First Presbyterian Church Annex at 7th Street and Lincoln Avenue.

Beekeeping
This hands-on beekeeping class will introduce you to the skills needed to obtain optimum benefits for your hive. This 10-month class will meet the third Tuesday of the month, starting on February 18, 2025 and will run through November 18, 2025 on the Grand Island Campus. Students are required to wear a hood and are responsible for the purchase of their equipment. 
You will learn about: the types of bees, bee behaviors, current and best practices based on colony habits, hive designs, queen rearing, splits, treatment of pests, the importance of flowers in your area, extraction methods and marketing the products of your hive. You will also learn documentation practices that will help you make best choices in the implementation and growth of your apiary. This course will be a mix of lecture and hands-on activities focused around your beehive.

Beginning Drawing-NEW! 
Learn beginning drawing techniques from Brandy Edgren, professional teacher and artist. In this introductory course, you will teach your eyes to see and practice hand and eye coordination. Explore a series of exercises that will greatly improve your drawing skills no matter your current skill level. By the end of the course, you will finish one drawing of the human figure and a still life drawing completed with color. Tuition cost includes a drawing pad, a set of drawing pencils and a set of Prismacolor colored pencils. Instr. Brandy Edgren. Tuition: $79, Mondays, Oct. 7-Dec. 2, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Crafters Retreat Yearlong Bundle

Grab your friends and enjoy monthly interruption-free weekends to finish your crochet, knitting, scrapbooking, quilting or artistic projects. You get space and time to accomplish all of your projects without the hassle of a long drive and the expense of lodging. We will lock the doors when you go home Friday night to keep your items safe. Return bright and early on Saturday and spend the day creating while enjoying and getting inspiration from your fellow crafters. Each retreat will be on the third Friday (4-9 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m.-4:45 p.m.) of the month.  $84 for 2025 (12 months).

Forcing Blooming Stems
Bring a sense of joyfulness indoors during these long winter days with delicate, colorful flowers by forcing branches to bloom. A few branches to consider might be forsythia, honeysuckle, magnolia, crabapple, to name a few. Marilyn Schmit, master gardener, will also guide us as we create a birdfeeder using a small trellis, peanut butter, seeds, orange slices and other ingredients.
