ADULT MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID – SPANISH 

Mental Health First Aid is an international program proven to be effective. Peer-reviewed studies published in Australia, where the program originated, show that individuals trained in the program: • Grow their knowledge of signs, symptoms and risk factors of mental illnesses and addictions. • Can identify multiple types of professional and self-help resources for individuals with a mental illness or addiction. • Increase their confidence in and likelihood to help an individual in distress. • Show increased mental wellness themselves. Studies also show that the program reduces the social distance created by negative attitudes and perceptions of individuals with mental illnesses.

All are invited to attend, whether you have little experience or possess culinary skills. The class will focus on the starter, the consistency of the dough, baking techniques, kneading skills and how a loaf should look and feel. Each student will take home starter and bread dough to bake. The class is limited to 10 students.

Bee Sweet to Your Honey 

Join us to create a collection of Valentine’s Day-inspired treats that feature honey. Truffles, no-bake energy bites and other goodies will be sampled, made and available to take home to share with others. Learn interesting facts about honey while creating delicious treats. Bring a friend for a “sweet” time.

Beginning Crochet
Crocheting can turn down time into productive time. Gain a feeling of accomplishment by working on a project while waiting at the doctor’s office or watching TV. It’s easy and fun to learn. In this class, you will learn to crochet while creating a project from beginning to end, starting with the most popular crochet stitches. Bring a size F hook and 70 yards of medium worsted weight cotton and additional colors for stripes or to share with others.

Basic Drawing Techniques

Take this class and learn to draw, starting with the basic shapes, one- and two-point perspective and continuing with shading. You will learn and practice the basics, then take these skills home for future endeavors in sketching and painting. Supplies needed: a soft lead pencil, eraser and a pad of newsprint or sketchbook paper no smaller than 8.5x11inches.

This introductory photography class will explain the most fundamental controls on your digital camera.  Learn about exposure, ISO, shutter speed, aperture and basic composition essentials to help you make better images.  This course is for anyone with limited knowledge of their camera that wants help getting better images and understanding camera functions.  Required: cameras that have the ability to adjust aperture and shutter speed. (Denoted by a capital “A” or “S” on the mode dial). Saturday, April 25, 10-12:30 p.m.

Beginning Pickleball

 Four weeks with our seasoned instructor and pickleball enthusiast, Karen Johnson, and you will be ready to hit the courts with  confidence. She will teach you the basic rules, techniques and strategies to get into this fun paddle sport. Bring your own paddle; pickleballs will be supplied.

Mondays, January 26-February 16, 2-4 p.m.

Beginning Pottery
The class will include using hand-building techniques to form a vessel based on a form of interest. Then students will use surface techniques like carving, textures, etc., of their choice. The work will be fired and various surfaces will be applied to the bisqueware and fired again. Class will be held at the instructor’s studio, 504 C. St., Overton.

Beginning Woodcarving

Students will complete three introductory level carving projects while learning use and maintenance of carving knives and gouges.  Materials and tools provided. Wednesdays, April 1, 8, and 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
