Advanced Beekeeping

This class will go further into the details of beekeeping. You will begin to work through the educational and experience aspects of beekeeping. Learn to document your hive and discover marketing ideas that will help promote hive-related products. This 10-month class will be a combination of lecture and hands-on activity in the field and will meet the second Tuesday of the month, February through November 2024. Students are responsible for the purchase of their equipment and beekeeping suit. A veil must worn while working the bees.

American Sign Language I (Lessons 5-8)
Learn the basics of the beautiful language of sign in a simple, interactive format. This introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) includes basic grammar, vocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers and other cultural information related to the deaf community.
The curriculum is based on accelerated language acquisition techniques and focuses on the most common concepts and words used in everyday communication. The lessons are designed to help a student reach communicative competence quickly.

This class will explore the world of American whiskey, delving into the history, production, and flavor profiles of bourbon, rye and other American whiskeys.

Archery for Adults Monday
Try a new sport. Whether you have no athletic ability or were a star athlete, you can learn to shoot archery with success in the first 30 minutes. This class is for adults 18+; all equipment is provided. Don't wait to register, each session has a maximum of nine students. Jeans and closed toe shoes are required to participate.

Author a Children’s Picture Book Grand Island June
Everyone has a story worth telling, and one way to do it is with a children’s picture book. It’s a great way to share stories and lessons with a younger generation. Explore the steps to creating your children’s book, including how to recruit a talented team and use writing prompts to get started. Instr. Tammy Suhr.

Barn Quilt Basic Grand Island June
Functional, fun and fantastic. Paint a barn quilt that will last and can be used indoors or out. You will paint on a 2-by-2-foot composite base - no wood. You can choose a traditional geometric design from a pattern board that has 48 options ranging from simple to complex and many color options. Rose Mapel will show you how to dissect a pattern and transfer it to the barn quilt blank. Bring yellow Delicate Frogtape (1.41-inch size), a hairdryer and heavy-duty extension cord.

different things that you wouldn’t normally try. It’s fun for appetizers or as a meal
and your board can be customized however you like. This class teaches you
cheese slicing techniques, board design and pairing ideas. You will leave with
a small board to feed two to four people and with the skills to recreate a board
on a larger scale. Please bring a good knife, a cheese you’d like to try and your
imagination! The rest of the supplies will be provided.

Train you dog to walk on a leash, sit down, come and stay on command. This 10 week course will build skills each week, including socializing with people and other dogs. Dogs must be at least 6 months old. Participants must bring a pinch collar. Classes will be held in the FIrst Presbyterian Church Annex at 7th Street and Lincoln Avenue. Instructors are Keith Penrose and Jennie Theesen. 

Beginning Beekeeping 

This hands-on class will introduce you to the skills needed to obtain optimum benefits for your hive. This 10-month class will meet the second Tuesday of the month, February through November 2024. You will learn about the types of bees, bee behaviors and current and best practices based on colony habits, hive designs and the importance of queens and flowers in your area. This will be a mix of lecture and hands-on activities focused around your beehive. Students are responsible for the purchase of their equipment and beekeeping suit. Beginning Italian
Ciao! Begin speaking and listening to Italian in this class that is perfect for the beginner who has little or no knowledge of the Italian language. By learning with others, you will enjoy a unique shared experience and you will get to interact and converse with your fellow classmates. Instr. Brain Injury 101: What is a Brain Injury? May
We will discuss the types of brain injuries and go over data gathered from research about people who are at high risk for brain injuries. You will learn more about the many symptoms people struggle with after a brain injury. The instructor will also explain what kind of help is available for a person after they have had a brain injury and how resource facilitation from the Brain Injury Alliance can help them and their loved ones.
