This class will be held Sat. Sept. 20, 2025, 10 AM - 1 PM at the Council Bluffs Campus, Looft Hall. Discover techniques for drying herbs to preserve their flavor and medicinal properties for year-round use. This class will cover different drying methods, storage tips, and creative ways to use dried herbs in cooking and home remedies.

This class will be held on Sat. Oct. 18, 2025, 10 AM-1 PM at the Council Bluffs Campus. Learn the essentials of canning food using both pressure and water bath methods. This class will cover safety guidelines, required equipment, and step-by-step instructions to preserve your garden harvests effectively.

Saturday, May 10, 2025 - 8:00 am - 3:00 pm - Looft Hall Room 022
Please register at least two weeks ahead of the scheduled date. This date is for you to come in and study with the instructor for 4 hours and then take the 2-hour exam. Iowa Western will mail a study guide to your address at the time of registration. This ServSafe Manager course is self-paced and will be followed by a national certification exam. This course gives food handlers essential knowledge and understanding of the fundamental food safety practices they need to carry out their work. Topics covered in the course include foodborne illness and contamination, receiving food, storing food, preparing and serving food, personal hygiene, cleaning and sanitation, pest prevention, and inspections. The course is designed for individuals working in restaurants, assisted living, long-term care, school food service programs, food trucks, and small businesses.
