Hydroponic growing with an Aquaponics comparison

Join us for a unique day of off campus learning at the new Outdoor Classroom Base camp in Mohawk Park. The Director, Brian Bovaird will be co-teaching with me. This new class introduces us to Hydroponics, a 2,000-year-old, engineered aquaculture system that eliminates many of the variables that might rob you of your green thumb achievements. We will explore the power of the Nitrogen Cycle (Aquaponics) to rapidly germinate & grow your crops. You will build a prototype system at the Outdoor Classroom facility.

What is hydroponics? If you have a balcony or have limited yard space but like growing fresh produce, you will find this soil-less cultivation method of interest. You will learn the basics including the advantages of no weeding, reduced insects and pests, faster growth, higher fruit and vegetable yields, and reduced maintenance costs. You will also learn about growing in soil vs. a hydroponic environment. You will also learn about different growing mediums, and systems and what options are available to you. You are sure to enjoy learning about this new, but not so common crop cultivation technique.
