In this course, participants expand their natural hair color knowledge with techniques tailored to textured hair. They analyze the unique needs of natural hair before coloring. Participants examine the application of safe lifting and toning methods that protect hair health and curl integrity. They assess proper preparation steps for performing color maintenance strategies. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to safely formulate and execute customized color services for textured and natural hair while preserving its health and structure.

Continuing Education, Must be Lisenced Barber/Cos - Gentle Hair Care Practices for Children             
In this course, participants explore the basics of natural hair care for children. They practice gentle detangling techniques. Participants apply simple wash day routines that nurture healthy hair and promote comfort. They identify signs of scalp sensitivity and use gentle methods that reduce discomfort. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to apply foundational hair care skills to support healthy, joyful hair experiences for children.

This session will combine both build by kit, and free build it is an open session. This Workshop will combine Kit or Free build of guitars, depending on your preference. You will learn to use the ShopBot CNC router, and can customize your guitar with 3D printing and Laser as well. It runs the full semester but due to Fab Lab events must occasionally alter days. There are Open Lab sessions associated with the Workshop as well. Feel free to bring family members, or build with a friend or child.

In this course, participants explore the fundamentals of natural hair care. They identify different natural hair textures and curl patterns to customize care routines. Participants examine basic scalp health and maintenance techniques, identifying common conditions and suggesting appropriate treatments. They analyze proper cleansing and moisturizing methods and the selection of products suited to natural hair needs. Participants explore protective natural hair styling techniques to minimize damage and promote hair growth. Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize natural hair types, maintain a healthy scalp, and implement basic natural hair care routines.

Lean Six Sigma is the standard for world-class quality based on continuous improvement through identifying and eliminating waste. Blending on-line instruction with online modules and a work project with 6 hours of individual coaching within three months of course completion. The first half of this course (623-497) is comprised of Lean enterprise and Six Sigma organizational structure, and the elements of define and measure in the DMAIC process. The second half of the course (623-498) will cover the Analyze, Improve, and Control elements of the DMAIC Process with report outs of individual workplace improvement projects.

Corequisite: You must be registered in both the Part A (623-497) and Part B (623-498) courses to participate.

Participants will apply powerful problem solving tools and basic statistical techniques necessary for the Black Belt to lead strategic implementation of lean six sigma practices in the organization, as well as train and mentor black belts and green belts. This course blends on-line instruction with online modules and a work project with 6 hours of individual coaching.

They analyze hair porosity and lift or tone natural hair without compromising curl pattern. Participants examine how to prepare hair for color services and apply advanced techniques for color placement and toning. They troubleshoot common coloring issues, maintain color-treated hair, and choose the best products for textured hair. Upon completion, participants will be able to safely color textured hair, create dimension with strategic placement, and maintain vibrant color while preserving hair health.

Continuing Education Must be Lisenced Barber/Cos -  Natural Hair Heat Styling Techniques

In this course, participants refine heat styling techniques for natural hair with a focus on achieving a lasting, healthy silk press. They apply refined preparation and blow-drying methods to reduce heat exposure. Participants evaluate heat protectants and thermal tools for various hair types. They examine silk press techniques that preserve hair health and reduce damage. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to perform an effective silk press while preserving the hair’s integrity and minimizing long-term damage.

In this course, participants refine their protective styling techniques for textured hair. They examine braiding, twisting, and loc maintenance to create long-lasting, protective styles. Participants explore curl definition methods, including twist-outs, braid-outs, and wash-and-go techniques, while learning to enhance natural curls. They analyze the application of advanced product layering and drying techniques to maximize volume and longevity. Upon completion, participants will be able to execute protective styles with precision, define curls effectively, and create volume with lasting results.
