Aviation meteorology is the study of the atmosphere and its phenomena as it relates to aviation. The course delves into the characteristics of the atmosphere with a special emphasis on weather affecting aircraft and air traffic control. Content includes fundamentals of aviation weather services, frontal formations, hazardous weather, dissemination of weather content and format, types of surface observations, content and format of pilot weather reports, atmospheric circulation systems, area forecasts, center weather advisories, AIRMETs & SIGMETs, and convective SIGMETs.

Take a Discovery Flight at our Aviation Center at R.L. Jones, Jr. Airport. The Discovery Flight is designed to give a future pilot the experience of flying an aircraft leading to TCC’s aviation program enrollment. The flight will consist of 30 minutes  of non-instructional flight time with an FAA-certified flight instructor in a Cessna 172S G1000 aircraft. Must comply with Transportation Security Administration regulations with proof of U.S. Citizenship and Government photo-issued ID. Direct costs apply for aircraft rental for one flight and flight instruction fees.
